We get it—shipping gold, silver, or other valuables by mail might sound risky. That’s why Alloy includes complimentary insurance coverage on every shipment, up to $100,000 when qualified. Here’s how it works and what's required from you:
1. Standard coverage starts at $25,000 per envelope
Every customer appraisal kit comes with built-in insurance—no extra cost, no signup required. Once your package is scanned by FedEx®, it's automatically insured up to $25,000, as long as basic packaging and photo documentation steps are followed.
What this covers:
-
Loss or theft during transit
-
Damage due to mishandling
-
Mis-delivery (as long as FedEx confirms pickup)
📦 Packages must be properly packed and documented to qualify (more below).
2. You can qualify for up to $100,000 in coverage
Have high-value bullion or luxury jewelry to ship? You may qualify for increased insurance—up to $100,000 per shipment.
To unlock higher coverage:
-
Contact your Alloy Advisor before shipping
-
Provide photos and a written description of the items
-
Wait for written confirmation from Alloy that the higher limit is approved
🎯 We cannot approve additional coverage retroactively. Always contact us first if your package exceeds $25,000 in value.
3. Follow the packing and photo checklist
Insurance coverage depends on how your items are packed and documented. If these steps aren’t followed, coverage may be denied.
Here’s what to do:
-
Pack your items securely using the Alloy kit
-
Take clear photos of all items placed next to your FedEx® envelope
-
Text or email your photos and a short description to your Alloy Advisor
-
Seal your package completely with strong tape
📸 Photos are your proof—especially for rare, high-value items.
4. What happens if a package is lost or damaged?
Alloy’s support team will work directly with you and our insurance provider to file a claim. We’ll handle the paperwork and file directly with FedEx® on your behalf.
To qualify for a claim:
-
Your package must be sent using Alloy’s prepaid label
-
It must be properly packed and documented (see above)
-
A loss or damage event must be confirmed by FedEx
⏳ Claims are typically resolved within 5–10 business days after submission.
5. Common reasons insurance may be denied
We want to make sure every package is protected. These are the most common mistakes that can result in a denied claim:
-
Shipping without using the Alloy-provided FedEx® envelope or label
-
Failing to send photos before sealing the package
-
Inadequate packaging that leads to loss or damage in transit
-
Shipping items that fall outside Alloy’s accepted criteria (e.g., panned gold, loose gemstones)
When in doubt, text or call your Alloy Advisor. We're happy to walk you through it.
